Abstract
Power dissipation and resolution are two main criteria for analog-to-digital modulator (ADM) especially in low supply voltage, which are contradicted with each other in most designs. Optimization of operation trans-conductance amplifier (OTA) in ADM design with both power dissipation and resolution restrictions is given in this paper. Theoretic analysis and simulation results show that this optimization can provide optimal values for each OTA in ADM to meet power dissipation and resolution restrictions. A real chip of low power high resolution ADM in 0.18μm technology with 1.2V supply voltage is also given as example. It can be seen from the example that this optimization method is useful for designers to determine detailed circuits´ design in higher level and reduce design cycle.
