Abstract
A rectangular cavity-backed active slot loop antenna has been investigated and the experimental results show that a 30 dB oscillator noise reduction can be achieved for the active slot loop antenna at a carrier frequency of 3.42 GHz and an offset frequency of 40 kHz. The advantage of the active slot loop antenna is that it is easy to fabricate and compatible with the micromachining process. The authors build a cavity-backed active slot loop antenna for the K band using silicon micromachining techniques, and it is believed that this novel active slot loop silicon micromachined antenna should be well suited to short range radars and communication systems.
