Abstract :
The qualification program for a new Class F rotor turn insulation system is described. The authors outline (1) the functional requirements for Class F rotor turn insulation for a Westinghouse large turbine generator, (2) laboratory screening tests to choose between available adhesives, (3) thermal aging tests to confirm Class F capability, (4) mechanical creep and abrasion tests and (5) factor verification trials. This effort led to the choice of a NEMA, G-11 epoxy glass laminate bonded to the copper conductor straps with a polyamide-epoxy adhesive film, which has been successfully introduced into production
