Abstract :
We compare optical methods for detecting fiber cuts in a wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) ring with in-line erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs). Both simulation and experiment show that differential measurements provide faster and more accurate discrimination than single power measurements.
