Abstract :
A linear model that determines the eye closure due to polarization-mode dispersion is presented. Current 2.5-Gbit/s systems have minor impairment from PMD; however, systems with increased bit rate and/or PMD could suffer from Q-factor fluctuation primarily and reduced average Q-factor.
