Abstract
Experimental investigations aimed at studying and distinguishing the three types of coronas in air are reported. These are as glow, streamer, and leader coronas and are produced by different electrode systems. Clear distinctions could be made in their optical appearance, audible noise, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) characteristics as measured with the help of suitable antennas and a spectrum analyzer. Interference appearing on an actual TV screen was also recorded for each type of corona separately. It was concluded that the leader corona caused maximum EMI
