Abstract :
Recent trends in the design of stand-along interpretive electrocardiographic (EG) carts are presented. These carts are now being designed to serve a variety of highly complex clinical and research applications, once supported only by mainframe computers. With the advent of faster microprocessors, memory chips and liquid crystal displays hardware design of these carts is getting standardized, and emphasis is shifting to software design. An example of such a cart is examined which has software packages designed for 12-lead ECG analysis, vectorcardiography, pacemaker ECG analysis, and high-frequency analysis of signal-averaged ECGs. It is predicted that the nest generation ECG carts will have networking to access complete patient data.<>
