Abstract :
Both highly linear and cross-linked poly(p-phenylene sulfide) (PPS) polymers were investigated dielectrically and thermoanalytically to estimate how much the structural differences affect their behavior from room temperature to 200°C or 300°C. It was found that the polymers showed similar thermodynamic behavior as well as nearly equal dielectric properties in a temperature range below TG, the glass transition temperature, whereas over T G they show a substantial difference in dielectric behavior. The linear type polymer shows a large increase in the dielectric properties due to the crystal/amorphous interface effect. The cross-linked polymer shows typical α relaxation under the influence of the cross-linking. The dielectric properties of the PPS polymers are similar to those of crystalline polymers in their temperature dependence above TG
