Abstract
An adaptive method based on broadening is proposed for synthesizing an array beampattern with low sidelobe levels. A number of interfering signals are assumed to be incident on the array from the sidelobe region to reduce the sidelobe levels. The weights of the beampattern are calculated based on the MVDR (minimum variance distortionless response) criterion. Null broadening techniques are used to reduce the number of interfering signals required and improve the iteration speed. Computer simulation results for a 64-element linear array are presented to show the effectiveness of this new method.
