Abstract
This paper summarizes the results of availability analysis completed for optical shared protection rings (OSPRs) applied to long-haul networks. Fault scenarios are described for the case of clients with automatic protection switching (APS) although results of the analysis are given for both clients with and without APS. It is shown that for clients with APS, OSPRs can provide avilability comparable to SONET/SDH rings.
