Abstract :
This paper presents the VLSI design of a new infrared communication controller for wireless communications recently carried out at Texas Instruments. The controller fully complies with the Infrared Data Association (IrDA) specifications, and it provides a new solution for wireless communications between computers and their peripherals at speeds up to 4.0 Mbps. In this paper, the IrDA protocols, design architecture, design flow and applications of this device are discussed.
