Abstract :
The author discusses how to decide whether speech input and output is appropriate for a particular C3I application. First, he reviews what is involved in speech recognition and synthesis. Next, he describes methods of testing the utility of these technologies by describing a set of demonstrations and experiments that have been undertaken. Finally, he reviews the results of these experiments and discusses their relevance to future systems
