  • Abstract
The overall purpose of the work performed was to develop a controller that uses fuzzy logic to control various sub systems of the Alternative Multisource Power System (AMPS) controller. The reasons for this were to maximize the systems output from wind and solar resources and minimize detrimental effects to the fuel cell and battery. The end system model uses a fuzzy control system that prioritizes the sources in the order they should be connected to the load. The fuzzy control system reads in the load voltage and determines an error depending on how high or low the voltage is compared to a set point of 12 volts. This error is then processed by the fuzzy system to give an output that is used to determine which sources need to be connected to the load. The final system output shows that the solar and wind systems serve as the primary sources for the AMPS controller in times of low load, the battery serves as a secondary in times of medium load, and the fuel cell is only used during the peak loads. The final output of the system has a smooth and consistent output even though the load current is changing rapidly. This shows that the AMPS simulation model is able to control the complex array of renewable energy resources to power a dynamic load.
