  • Abstract
This paper describes a load shedding methodology for use in time sequential market simulations of zonal network models, where each zone represents a larger region. Intra regional network limitations can be modelled using constraint formulations. However, when using regional load traces, any load shedding due to constraints violating causes regional unserved energy only. This paper presents a methodology that provides details about the exact location of load shed, which is important information for transmission planning purposes. Dummy generators, nodal load traces and a dummy region are used. Capacity and transmission constraints are weighted using violation penalty factors to ensure the model behaves correctly. The methodology was tested using a market simulation database of the Australian National Electricity Market with input data sourced from the 2009 National Transmission Statement. It was found to be robust.
