Abstract :
BitTorrent has proved to be the most effective and popular P2P file distribution application in recent years. In order to improve the fairness of BitTorrent network, a novel incentive mechanism (proportional uploading mechanism), which consists of bandwidth limitation strategy for the seed and bandwidth allocation strategy for all peers, is proposed. Simulation results show that, compared with the default strategy and another representative block-based strategy, the proposed mechanism can improve piece diversity and fairness of the BitTorrent network remarkably and at the same time, can reduce the load on the seed by a large margin.
