Abstract
Queuing delay and packet loss probability are two common congestion indicators used in congestion control. Queuing delay has several advantages over packet loss probability. However, packet loss can not be completely avoided. And when there is packet loss, queuing delay is no longer an effective feedback. In this paper, we propose a new congestion control algorithm for TCP based on integrated feedback (IF-TCP). In the algorithm, packet loss probability and queuing delay are combined into a new integrated congestion feedback. When there is no packet loss, IF-TCP behaves similarly to FAST TCP. When some packets are dropped, IF-TCP maintains fairness among heterogeneous flows and stable dynamic properties. The algorithm provides a uniform approach to adjusting sending rate whether there is packet loss or not. And the uniform approach results in the same equilibrium, stability and fairness under both cases.
