Abstract :
It is suggested that telecommunication and information management technology can play a catalytic role in the rebirth of rural Saskatchewan health care. Three available technologies that may provide solutions to the problems that rural Saskatchewan health care is experiencing are discussed. SmartCard technology can provide province-wide access to patient records. Distance education via satellite, microwave, and fiber-optic links can provide continuing education for health care professionals and health work shops for the public. Teleradiology for distance diagnostics can provide specialist services to rural and remote locations
