Abstract :
Attention is given to the FT2D unit, a full-duplex fiber optic multiplexer-demultiplexer that can be placed on a desk top. It has an aggregate digital transmission capacity of 100 Mb/s consisting of ten 10 Mb/s full duplex channels. These channels are submultiplexed into eight 1.25 Mb/s channels, providing a total of 80 full-duplex data channels. These data channels can be allocated electronically to meet a given telecommunication requirement. To provide flexibility in meeting a wide range of telecommunication needs, the unit has one card slot for the fiber-optic multiplexer-demultiplexer card and two card slots for interface cards. The two interface card slots offer a flexible approach to meet specific needs because a wide range of interface cards supporting various telecommunication needs, such as analog telephone, RS-232C, and Ethernet local area networks, are offered
