Abstract :
The paper quantitatively compares the effects of the sizes of finite, truncated, circular dielectric and ground plane on the performance of a probe-fed, rectangular microstrip antenna and probe-fed, single-layer, wideband U-slot antenna. The finite ground plane effects of these two antenna configurations are simulated using the commercially available, FDTD based, electromagnetic simulator, FIDELITY. It appears that the variation of the size of the finite ground plane seems to have a similar effect on both U-slot and rectangular patch antenna geometries.
