Abstract :
Recently, B.B. Sramek introduced a stroke volume (SV) equation which does not use specific resistivity of blood, calculates accurately SV/CO (cardiac output) independent of lung water, ethnic origin, or age, and uses clinical data obtained using spot, pregelled, disposable electrodes; these electrodes do not interfere either with respiration or surgery. The accuracy of current thoracic electrical bioimpedance (TEB) is independent of weight and blood-flow state. The data are obtained continuously and hands-off. Clinically, TEB provides information about global perfusion, pump performance, pumping efficiency, preload, contractility and volemic status.<>
