Abstract :
This paper describes the development and implementation of a measurement network that provides real-time ocean current profiles collected from drilling rigs, oceanographic survey vessels, and production facilities located in the Gulf of Mexico. The Eddy Joint Industry Project developed the program, named EddyNet. This real-time network of observations improves the ability to analyze ocean currents in the Gulf of Mexico and ultimately to support the operational needs of deepwater hydrocarbon exploration and production. In addition, EddyNet provides a centralized oceanographic database that can be used to develop environmental design criteria.
