Abstract :
The measured link, s21, of a two antenna system contains the response of both antennas and the channel between the antennas. The corresponding time-domain waveform reflects the contribution of both transmit and receive antenna in the link as well as the channel in a convolution form. In this paper we demonstrate how to obtain the response of the single antenna (realized effective length) in both time and frequency domains from the frequency-domain s21 measurement using a vector network analyzer. Form the response of the single antennas, one can predict the received waveform of a link using different types of receive and transmit antennas, along with a channel model and transmit waveform.
