Abstract
This paper studied energy distribution in a pressure control valve. Pressure energy of air flow passing through the valve is converted to heat by the valve throttle. Our theoretical and experimental work revealed that the downstream temperature is always lower than the upstream temperature when the control valve is thermally insulated. Neither the isothermal equation nor adiabatic equation can exactly explain the energy balance in the control valve. An important factor, friction in the valve, is considered theoretically and verified experimentally in our work.
