Abstract :
This paper proposes a novel MAC protocol named SSR-BC for mobile ad hoc network. The idea of collision resolution signaling protocol is adopted for medium sharing in our protocol. The modified CRS can arbitrate contentions locally and avoid hidden terminals problem. Since CRS produces a limited subset of surviving nodes across the network, power control schemes is introduced to improve spatial reuse. The main idea is that RTS/CTS handshake takes place at the maximum power and the SBT/DATA/ACK exchange takes place at the minimum power required for communication. SSR-BC supports both unicast and multicast. We implement SSR-BC in OPNET environment and study the parameters that impact its performance. Our preliminary simulation results demonstrate that our protocol achieve high throughput (about 220% of IEEE 802.11) in dense ad hoc network
