Abstract :
Radio resource management is of great importance for future wireless communication system. One of the critical radio resources is power. Power control function assigns transmission power to the users so that the quality of the transmission is good and the level of the interference is low. The power control loop is one of the parts of the system, which determines unstable behaviour. Fast power control tries to compensate the effect of deep fading or so called Rayleigh fading. A new approach presented in the paper is to apply an adaptive self-tuning predictor algorithm for fast power control. The predictive value of received power is used by the control to decide the new power control command. The practical constraints are taken into account. The system is utilised with a back-up controller. The goal of implementing the new enhanced predictive algorithm for fast power control is to improve the quality of the transmission for the active users in the system
