Abstract :
The paper presents the use of codeword use frequency (CUF) to indicate codebook performance in a CELP coder and a method of optimizing the codebook on basis of it. Having tested the ITU-T G.728 algorithm using the method we find that it is possible to further decrease the code rate. The primary experiment obtains some fairly good results
