Abstract :
This paper evaluates the effectiveness of beam tilting in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems by a system level simulation. In a cellular system, when the delay spread of the received signal is large, the inter-symbol interference (ISI) as well as the inter-carrier interference (ICI) caused by the distortion of the subcarrier´s orthogonality are occured. Beam tilting at the base station can control the elevation antenna pattern and thus suppress the other cell interference. In addition, it can reduce the delay spread and thus suppress ISI and ICI. The results of the system level simulation show that beam tilting enhances the beam pattern within the cell edge while suppressing the pattern outside the cell edge; beam tilting improves the received SINR so channel capacity in increased
