Abstract :
Based on the research on the internal characteristic of the passive-suspension, in this paper, we get the piecewise linear damping coefficient of the two-mode variable damper, and the speed characteristic matching it. To meet the requirements of the damper´s speed characteristic, an optimum design method based on the vehicle´s parameters and the damping range was established. The valves´ parameters were determined, and by simulation, we got the indicator diagram under different excitations and its comparison diagram compared to theoretical speed characteristic. The results indicate that, the external characteristic of the designed variable-damper is in accordance with the typical damper´s characteristic, and this design method can help to design variable dampers.
