Abstract :
A fractal image coding based on the quadtree (FICBQ) is presented in this paper. Compared with the basic automatic fractal image coding (BAFIC), it overcomes the BAFIC shortcomings: an image has to be divided into square ranges of a fixed size, etc. The FICBQ is simple in the image division and can obtain higher compression ratios and needs less computation time while coding. Experimental results show that when the FICBQ obtains a PSNR of 29.37 dB and compression ratio of 11.09, the coding time is about 1/22 of BAFIC´s
