Abstract
The self-piercing riveted (SPR) joints mechanical properties of coating on the behavior and quality between aluminum alloy and steel sheets was researched. NG5754 aluminum and cold rolled ST12 steel were used for this test. The Zinc-plated and E-coated were applied to the ST12 sheets. The test results showed that a coating on the surface of the ST12 sheets would affect the interlock quality in terms of interlock distance, head height and piercing material thickness. Analysis of interlock sections indicated that the SPR process needed various setting parameters for uncoated and coated sheets in order to achieve satisfied joints results. The research has also demonstrated that both Zinc-plated and E-coated affected the interlock strength and failure mechanism.
