Abstract :
The electric field of HV insulator distribute in infinite area. In order to calculate its electric field and potential distribution using FEM, it is inevitable to resolve the open field problem. In this paper, 2D electric field of HVDC insulator has been analyzed using FEM, in which the field boundary has been set by two methods. One is using artificial truncation boundary, the other is using far field unit in ANSYS to simulate the infinite boundary. The results comparison of two boundary conditions show that far field unit can simulate infinite boundary more accurate.
