Abstract :
In this study, a new type hypocycloid mechanism with a special crank and a pair of additional planetary gears, distinct from a conventional mechanism, are presented. This new mechanism is applied to a single cylinder diesel engine for initial study, and the dynamic model of the new engine with hypocycloid mechanism is built based on virtual prototype technology. For the comparison, the kinematic and dynamic analysis results of developed hypocycloid mechanism have been evaluated with respect to that of a conventional crank connecting rod mechanism. The results indicate advantages over engine with conventional crank connecting rod. These advantages are great reduction of piston sideforce, piston friction, cylinder wear, and complete disappearance of second order reciprocating inertia forces, much improvement of vibration and noise, and better combustion characteristic. The rectilinear motion of the new enginepsilas piston is the main reason why this engine behaves differently in comparison to engines with a conventional crank connecting rod mechanism.
