Abstract
Most hard disk drives use a ramp load/unload (L/UL) technology because of its many advantages. Despite of these advantages, it was too difficult for engineers to design the mechanism using only experiments, and then there has been numerical simulation of L/UL process. However, the unloading process actually progresses in a dynamic state moving a slider from the disk to the ramp. In particular, an emergency parking unloading with very fast velocity should be considered an effect of a dynamic slider motion. In this paper, we propose a novel analysis of emergency parking which includes the dynamic slider motion considering a skew and velocity effect by a track-seeking motion.
