Abstract
Power flow analysis of power systems with STATCOM is reviewed. A new method for the power flow calculation of a power system with STATCOM operating in voltage control mode is introduced. Unlike the common practice where the real power loss of STATCOM is ignored, the proposed procedure accommodates this loss by including the equivalent resistance of the STATCOM in power flow calculation. The new method is applied for the IEEE 30-bus test system. The results show that the proposed method possesses excellent convergence characteristics.
