Abstract
Many works have been reported in literature to address the issue of quality-of-service (QoS) provisioning in the networks, especially the Internet. In this paper, we address this issue by proposing a new scheme, called asymmetric bi-directional RSVP (ABi-RSVP). ABi-RSVP is more efficient than the well known bi-directional RSVP (Bi-RSVP) in the sense that it uses less network resource to provide QoS guarantee to a connection, and thus increases the throughput of a network. The basic idea behind ABi-RSVP is that for the ACK data of a single connection, instead of reserving the equal amount of network resources on its two directions, we minimize the used network resources with asymmetric reservation. Through extensive simulations, we show that ABi-RSVP improves the QoS of the network compared with RSVP, and it outperforms Bi-RSVP in terms of the network utilization level
