  • Abstract
The enlargement of the stand-alone capability of wind turbine generators and the total of wind turbine in power system, the problem in the safe operation is taking more and more attention. Wind turbine typically measures 100-m high and sits out in a field some distance away from other tall objects. These conditions make wind turbines tempting targets for lightning strikes. Lightning stroke is one of the important factors affecting the secure operation of wind farm with the enlargement of capacity of wind turbine and the scale of wind farm. In this paper the model of wind turbines is established and the lightning stroke process and damage mechanism of wind turbine generators are discribed comprehensively. The lightning protection measures is put forward.
