Abstract :
In this paper, an improvement to the decision-directed early-late (lambda=1) symbol timing error detector is presented. The source of self-noise is determined and canceled. Substantial improvement in the resulting additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) performance with respect to the Cramer-Rao bound has been achieved
