Abstract :
As a part of the payload of ESA ENVISAT platform, the GOMOS instrument (Global Ozone Monitoring by Occultation of Stars) will measure the vertical profile of ozone and several other species by the technique of stellar occultations, in order to measure the time variations of ozone, determine their causes, and ultimately improve our understanding of stratospheric chemistry for a better long term prediction. This article descriibes the instrument operation modes and the retrieval algorithms
