Abstract :
Foods are becoming more customised and consumers want food that tastes great, looks great and is healthy. On-demand food printing, a method of distributing food in a personalised manner, is one way to satisfy this demand. The overarching goal of this research is to print coloured images with food. There are many different strategies that can be employed in order to build an object up layer by layer. To aid in the selection of the building strategy, two algorithms have been used to estimate the distribution of colour in various sample images. The findings of this research can be utilised to estimate the distance required to move the printing head of the food printer between similarly coloured pixels in the image to be printed.
