Abstract :
This paper details new features of IPv6 that are of particular interest to designers of warfighter networks, and gives guidance for properly deploying these new features to achieve the stated goals of net-centric warfare. New IPv6 features can decrease sensor to shooter times, increase network reliability, reduce network operations and maintenance (O&M) costs, increase warfighter operations tempo (OPTEMPO), and help warfighter networks rapidly reorganize their structure to face changing threats on the battlefield. These benefits will only be realized if engineers of warfighter networks are educated to "think out of the box" and properly deploy these new features
