Abstract :
This paper describes how the power system modeling framework currently available in transmission planning can be used to make existing applications such as power flow, contingency analysis, and voltage stability available in the EMS real-time environment. We propose a new same- model topology processing algorithm that allows a full-topology power system model to be viewed as a planning case, hence enabling the utilization of the existing solution routines. In addition, the same-model architecture allows engineers to explore both the EMS full-topology and the planning representations using the same graphical user interface (GUI). The tool is demonstrated for power flow, contingency analysis, and voltage stability on actual real-time models of large ISO systems.
