Abstract
Silicon Valley has a long history new startup companies based upon innovations developed in the world-class university laboratories at Stanford University and the University of California at Berkeley. I have had several students start companies, served on the boards of several companies and evaluated many proposals to venture capital groups. I will describe some of the important foundations required to make successful transitions from university innovations into viable companies and lessons learned in the process.
