Abstract :
Analysis of integrity requirements for Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) have been based primarily on assumed static limits of integrity errors in position transmissions. Most GNSS failures that will affect ADS-B, in fact, are dynamic and will be limited in duration before an integrity failure is detected. The limited duration of integrity failures may affect ADS-B application requirements. This paper attempts to develop some mathematical relationships with respect to the dynamics of integrity failures and gives an example of how this understanding might be applied to ADS-B applications. It is suggested that the implications of the temporal nature of GPS failures be considered in future analyses of ADS-B applications.
