Abstract :
Out of band networks used for management and control are not new. However, their use can now have significant impact in the area of homeland security. This paper presents the advantages of using an out of band network to help ensure network survivability and to decrease the mean time to repair of any network. It then presents a design for an out of band network and gives tips based on the experience gained with such a network at Sandia National Laboratories.
