Abstract :
A 4-channel dedicated microprocessor for control of both urge and stress urinary incontinence is presented. In the urine-holding phase, the microprocessor is powered by a battery and is autonomous so that no interventions from any external processors are required. When the patient wants to void his bladder, he simply switches on the external oscillator and stops the stimulation. The microprocessor is programmable. All the parameters residing in the memory can be modified by transdermally transmitted commands. The parameters include the pulse frequency, the pulse amplitude, the pulse duration and the active stimulated site. The microprocessor can, on command in memory access phase, send back to the external receiver the content of the memory, thus confirming that the right parameters have been written into the memory. The stimulus pulse frequency and the pulse amplitude are highly stable and are independent of power supply changes
