Abstract :
MicroStimulators are electronic devices that can be injected into muscles to exercise and strengthen them, following, for example, a stroke or arthroplastic surgery. The authors have designed a bedside controller and user-interactive software that enable a clinician to test devices, identify multiple implantation sites and set up an exercise program that the patient can then self-administer. The system consists of a Motorola 68HC11 microcontroller, field-programmable gate array, and WindowsTM based software. The bedside controller maintains a record of treatment sessions administered while it is used in its stand-alone configuration
