Abstract :
Receiver sensitivity is one of the key performance measuring parameters for any mobile receiver. The bad receiver sensitivity causes issues like handover failure, call drops, low data throughput, high bit error rate, poor voice quality and bad link performance. The better the sensitivity, the better the receiver performance, so for a high performance mobile receiver, higher sensitivity level is must for achieving best quality. In this work, several methods are proposed to improve the receiver bit detection performance. These techniques help to improve the receiver sensitivity performance by 1.0 to 1.3 dB in all wireless channel propagation conditions. Some of these methods are very complex and require lot of processing power, which leads to more delay and power consumption. On the other hand, some of the algorithms provide best performance in one specific channel condition, but does not provide enough performance benefit in some other channel conditions. So, there is a need for adaptive switching mechanism to achieve optimum receiver performance by adaptively enabling or disabling different receiver processing blocks and algorithms based on the detected channel condition, received signal strength and measured bit error rate to achieve the maximum performance with minimum processing power.
