Do Testers´ Preferences Have an Impact on Effectiveness?

Both verification and validation aim to improve the quality of software products during the development process. They use techniques like formal methods, symbolic execution, formal reviews, testing techniques, etc. Technique effectiveness depends not only on project size and complexity but also on the experience of the subject responsible for testing. We have looked at whether the opinions and preferences of subjects match the number of detected defects. Opinions and preferences can influence the decisions that testers have to make. In this paper, we present a piece of research that has explored this aspect by comparing the opinions of subjects (qualitative aspects) with the quantitative results. To do this, we use qualitative methods applied to a quantitative study of code evaluation technique effectiveness.
