Abstract :
A project to design and construct an airborne L-band (1.4 GHz) synthetic aperture radiometer was launched in the Laboratory of Space Technology of Helsinki University of Technology (HUT) early 1997. The instrument consists of 36 antenna/receiver elements and an FPGA-based correlator and it will be accommodated onboard the HUT remote sensing aircraft, Short SC-7 Skyvan. A four-element prototype is being tested to define the feasibility of the selected technology. The prototype consists of four antenna/receiver units, one local oscillator/calibration unit (LO/CAL), and a simplified correlator
