Abstract :
The current study presents the use of some knowledge engineering techniques applied to the design of semi-automatic cartographic features extraction tools. The context of this study is the creation and the updating of the Canadian 1:50000 topographical maps. Global map´s features extraction and updating strategies are presented. A particular attention is placed on three roads extraction strategies. Two are hierarchical and one is sequential
